Markets in and around Villa Alarelle - Olonzac Market - Tuesday
For many visitors to Villa Alarelle, the opportunity to visit local markets to buy and sample local produce and experience the atmosphere of a typical market in the South of France is a must-do whilst on holiday.
In this first of a series, we are going to highlight the Tuesday market at Olonzac about 20 minutes drive from Villa Alarelle. As for all markets, if you can get to the market nearer 9am in the morning than 11am, you will see and explore the best of fresh produce. Cafe de la Poste in the centre of Olonzac is always a busy spot to pick up up a coffee.
Olonzac is a typical market town just over the departmental border in Aude and almost coupled with Homps a small port on the Canal du Midi providing an attractive walk alongside the canal with several restaurants and bars along the canal side.
On the way back back from Olonzac, it is worth considering lunch at L'Asphodele in the small village of Oupia or Lo Cagoral in Aigne which both offer good local food and open terrace dining.
Here are a few photos from a recent visit (later in the morning):
